LOUIE McCarthy-Scarsbrook says winning a Grand Final ring justifies why he came to Saints.
The prop moved his family ‘up North’ when he signed for the club in 2011.
And the 14-6 victory over Wigan at Old Trafford has fully vindicated that decision.
“It’s a fantastic feeling and justifies why I am here today,” he said. “I moved my family from London to St Helens and it was the right thing to do. I have a smile printed on my face and it is difficult to put words into a sentence about what it means.
“The game was a real war of attrition. We needed to be calm after the sending off but for 20 minutes we were trying to score a try on every set. It doesn’t matter now though.
“We ground our sets out; kick chased well and hunted the mistake. When that happened Sia Soliola scored.
“To win a Grand Final with no half backs is a great feat. As a collective we fought for every inch on that field and that is what won us the game in the end.”
He continued: “It was great to do it for Sia, Willie and Boof. Sia is a man of few words but when he speaks everyone listens. Manu is the same. He has helped me a lot this year with adapting to new positions. Boof has been there and done that with club and country.
“Now we are sending them back with winners rings. They should be upgraded to first class!”
