WILLIE Manu signed off his career with a Grand Final winner’s ring… and he says it’s all down to the spirit in the camp.
“When I first started talking to Saints I knew they were always up there and in with a chance of silverware and I wanted that,” he said. “So to come here and do it is superb.
“We started off with the League Leaders’ Shield but we knew the job wasn’t done. We’d worked hard with adversity this year and the boys have been awesome. We played for each other, stuck together and it showed at Old Trafford.
“Perhaps we were meant to win it with our half backs missing. We certainly missed Lance Hohaia out there in the first half.
“At half time we spoke about calming down and not playing the occasion. We had to do our roles and our jobs. In the end the momentum turned as we stuck to what worked for us.”
He continues: “It was a fitting finish for the boys who are leaving and we have done it with all the doubters against us.”
