Mose Wants Defence

MOSE Masoe says Saints want to be known for their defence this season.

Keiron Cunningham’s side made 351 tackles in the 18-7 win over Catalans, keeping their visitors to nil in the second half.

“It was a tough game against Catalans; they came out strong, offloaded the ball and made it difficult for us to contain them,” the big Samoan prop said. “To get two points against such a skilful side was good for us.

“The first half took a long time but once the boys found their rhythm it was ok. We got some back to back sets on our own line and to D up with 12 men was impressive. It was tough.

“We have been working hard on our defence. Every team in the comp knows we attack well but we want to be known for our defence too. We want teams to know when they come to us it will be a tough day for them.

“We know we have to win every game because every game counts in a comp with 12 teams going into eight. To get the win and keep them scoreless in the second half was good.

“Salford will be dangerous as they lost their first game. We need to get into the arm wrestle to put us in in a good position to win the game. They have strike power throughout the field. It will be a good battle.”

Mose has also been speaking of the competition in the squad which is leaving Cunningham with a headache every time he selects his team.

And he admits, no one is immune from being left out.

“Having these kids is good for the club, healthy, and they are keeping us older guys on our toes,” he continues. “Kez treats us all the same; it doesn’t matter what you are being paid. If you work hard in training and out on the field you will get picked. That’s good for the team and makes us strive to be better players.

“We want to keep pushing each other – and I want to continue to get better. I am an impact player and my role is to get everyone going on the field. I know I did some of that on Friday, but I want to do more.”
