LANGTREE Park Stadium will play host to a special Northern Soul Evening in aid of Cancer Research, Saturday May 9.
The event is priced at just £5 per person and includes sets from DJs Dave & Dan Perry from Northern Noise, Chorley, Ben Moses from Northern Line.
Tickets can be pre-booked by calling event organiser and founder Terry Hopkinson on: 07976 382 342. You can also walk up on the night (subject to availability of tickets).
Terry explains how the event came to be:
“After losing a very close friend to cancer who didn’t respond to normal treatments, I thought it’s not right that people have to suffer through lack of investment on finding a cure for cancer, so I asked around my friends on the northern soul scene if they would help me hold events to raise money for frontline cancer research, and they all said yes, and charity soul was formed!
“We believe that the cure will eventually come from stem cell research, so we googled SCR and Prof. Maitland’s name kept coming up every time, he’s the world’s leading light in SCR of the prostate, which is very similar to breast and ovarian cancer, so we rang him.
“His lab is close by to us at York University and he invited us over and the rest is history. Prof. Maitland is the sole beneficiary of Charity Soul, and we have bought into his methods as the work he is doing is incredible and one day could cure cancer.
“We have now obtained our full charity status and now we aim to raise as much money and go as high as we can take the charity in gaining publicity, raising maximum funds to hopefully one day make inroads in medicine to stop the suffering of cancer victims and their families all around the world.
“Charity Soul would like to thank St. Helens R.F.C. and Leeds Rhinos in becoming the first pro sports teams to recognise the work we are doing and to support our cause. My good friend and Saints legend Paul Newlove is a Charity Soul ambassador in rugby league and over the coming years we aim to get into many other pro sports to raise our profile to raise more money to really make a difference. Charity Soul would like to state that all our helpers are volunteers, we do the work through our love of northern soul, and to eventually make a difference to future cancer sufferers.
“We want everyone will have a great time but more importantly we can raise our profile and awareness of Charity Soul but raise some money to help one day find the cure for cancer.”
