KEIRON Cunningham said Saints’ poor start ultimately proved to be their undoing as they went down 33-26 in Catalan on Saturday.
Adam Swift’s opener – and subsequent additioanl treble – had the champions up in the first few minutes, and then level heading into the final stages.
But Zeb Taia then took advantage of some slack defence.
“It was a very tough game and we paid the price for a pretty poor start to the game,” he told the press after the match. “That was the hottest part of the day and we always say that if you make errors then you have to pay the piper and we paid in a big way towards the end of the game.”
Saints looked in control at half time, even though the scoreline was just 20-18.
They dominated large parts of the second half too but couldn’t make their chances pay.
“I feel that we could have won that game,” he continued, “as we certainly had the opportunities but we made silly mistakes.”
