Tasi Set For Saints

SUPER League Champions St Helens have signed Samoan International Lama Tasi on a two-year deal from 2016.

The 25-year-old prop forward has played for Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos and is currently with Salford Red Devils.

Saints head coach Keiron Cunningham said: “Lama is a great acquisition for the club and will add a great deal to our pack next season.

“He carries the ball well; is big, strong and powerful and at 25 it’s frightening to think he still can improve.

“We are all excited at the prospect of working with him.

“With the youngsters we have coming through the system here, as well as the experience the senior players bring, we have a good balanced squad for this season and beyond.”

Lama stands at 6ft 3, weighs in at 16-and-a-half stone and has been at the hub of Salford’s go forward for the last season-and-a-half.

Originally from Auckland, he moved to Queensland when he was three-years-old.

He played his ‘youth’ rugby league with Manly in 2009 and 2010, represented the Junior Kiwis, and then signed with Sydney Roosters.

Lama stayed there for two seasons, making 30 appearances, and earned a call-up to the Samoa team for their International with Tonga.

He would later join Brisbane in 2013 where his fearsome runs and hits would see him given the ‘Bondi Bruiser’ nickname.
