Saints Link With Heart Of Glass

SAINTS have teamed up with Heart of Glass to offer a number of arts and culture initiatives at Langtree Park which will add to the matchday experience for fans.

Amongst the activity for the games against Salford (June 5) and Wigan (June 12) will be a series of pre-match musical performances in the stadium concourses, the distribution of a family arts activity pack for the young and young at heart and a specially commissioned photography exhibition produced in collaboration with St.Helens Community Clubs.

Concourse Music Programme
Simon Lind is a songwriter and musician based in Newton-le-Willows. He is a guitarist and vocalist and is currently playing with numerous different musicians and bands. Simon will be performing in the concourse at Langtree Park on June 5 and 12.

Joining Simon at the Salford match will be Manchester based Inner Sense.

They were one of the first samba influenced bands in Britain and were founded by Colin Seddon who had seen the London School of Samba perform at the WOMAD festival.

He was inspired to invite some musician friends to set up the Inner Sense Percussion Workshops – later simply Inner Sense. During this time tens of thousands of people have been inspired by their performances.

On June 12, we will welcome Scattering, a 6-piece folk acoustic band made up of local musicians.

Family Art Pack
Artist Dave Bixter has created a special free art pack for young people.

It includes various activities that can be completed in the terraces or pre-match including player word searches, flag designing and a ‘spot the v’ exercise! The packs will be distributed pre-match in the Hattons Solicitors Family Stand for the Salford game and the Typhoo family stand for the Wigan game.

Photography Exhibition
We are delighted to present work by photographer Stephen King who has been working with the Amateur Club network in St.Helens to create a series of portraits that will be installed in the concourse at Langtree Park on June 12.

The work will showcase the ‘unsung’ heroes who make our clubs tick, from grounds and catering staff to cleaners and coaches. We know that Rugby League is a community effort and this work will aim to shine a light on some of the behind the scenes work.

Heart of Glass is a new arts commissioning programme for and about St.Helens people and place.
