Saints Commemorate

SAINTS and Huddersfield will commemorate the country’s Armed Forces when the two sides meet on Friday July 10.

In recognition of Armed Forces Day, the club has linked with ABF The Soldiers Charity and the Services to mark the occasion.

There will be:

  • A bucket collection for the ABF
  • Representatives from the Royal Artillery, Army Cadets and other armed forces sited around the ground
  • A performance from the Royal Artillery’s 30 piece brass band before kick-off
  • The matchball presented by a Chelsea Pensioner
  • A 105mm gun will signal the start of the game.

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony from around 6pm at the Steve Prescott MBE Memorial Garden.

It is to commemorate the Centenary of the 1915 Challenge Cup Final between Saints v Huddersfield.

Although Saints lost the match, it was the last final before the war and the clubs will be paying tribute to those who fell in battle, such as Saints’ Jimmy Flanagan, with a bugler playing the Last Post.

Tickets for the game are on sale from the Ticket Office, by calling 01744 455 052 and online.

Serving military members can receive a significant discount on tickets for the game too if they pop into the Ticket Office with their ID card.
