IT’S the year of the ‘6′ – and if you know your history you’ll know the number is a lucky omen for the Saints.
Some of the club’s most successful periods have come when the season ends in a 6 – and Keiron Cunningham and his charges are working hard to make sure this happens again.
Pre-Super League, Saints won the Challenge Cup in 1956, 1966 and 1976 alongside a whole host of other trophies.
And in 1996 and 2006 they did the Super League and Challenge Cup double.
This year they’ll be aiming to follow that tradition and have bolstered the ranks with half back Theo Fages, prop forward Lama Tasi, second row / centre Dominique Peyroux and outside back Jack Owens.
Calvin Wellington, Danny Richardson, Regan Grace, Jake Spedding and Levy Nzoungou have also joined the first team squad with Ricky Bailey, Morgan Knowles and Oli Davies who made their debuts in 2015.
“Pre-season is going to plan,” Cunningham said. “The new players have integrated well into the squad and the leaders are leading and doing their jobs.
“We’re training well and now we’re looking forward to the start of the season.”
Saints will kick off their 2016 season with friendlies against Dewsbury Rams (Jan 17) and Widnes Vikings (Jan 24) – both at home – before they host Huddersfield in the Super League on February 5.
The big World Club Series clash with Sydney Roosters follows on Friday February 19 – and ticket sales for that game are going well.
Good Friday (March 25) will see Wigan visit Langtree Park in the traditional clash whilst Warrington will come to town on June 3.
Sandwiched in-between is the tasty showdown with Leeds on April 22.
