Roby Set To Miss Reds Clash

SAINTS are likely to be without James Roby as they travel to Salford Red Devils this Thursday.

But the hooker will be back on the field sooner rather than later according to Keiron Cunningham.

“We will get the scans done and see what comes of them but it’s probably too short a turnaround for him to play,” he said. “He has hurt his ribs but it is a symptom driven injury. Once he recovers he will be available.

“We want to make sure he is ok but there is nothing we can do to speed up the process.”

He continued: “I thought we went well on Friday. We played smart and our game management was good. The pack was brilliant too.

“We used Jordan Turner in a couple of roles in the middle last year and he trained there in pre-season with Theo Fages swapping in. It was quite difficult to find the best pairing to give us balance but we have done that.

“It takes some pressure from Luke Walsh and helps him get out and play footy.

“Will we stick with that this week? We have a few bumps and bruises so will have to see. I would like to keep our spine together but our hand could be forced a little this Thursday.”

One notable omission from last week’s squad was Travis Burns.

The stand-off suffered a concussion in the friendly with Widnes and that needs to clear before he can be reintroduced to the side.

“Travis Burns had a slight concussion last week so wouldn’t have been available – but he wasn’t in contention regardless of the concussion,” Keiron continued. “He hasn’t got a point to prove. There is a lot of expectation at this club and a lot of great players come through here.

“Travis was disappointed with his season last year; he came off a great season with Hull KR and we were all expecting great things of him.

“He is a real champion bloke off the field and I like the way he plays the game tough. He is definitely involved in all our training sessions and once he gets full clearance for his head injury, we will have a look at him for somewhere else maybe.

“My job is to pick the best team for the club. That is what I am paid to do.”
