KYLE Amor is hoping all fans of rugby league will get to Langtree Park next Friday to back the Saints against Sydney.
The Dacia World Club Series will see Leeds, Wigan and Keiron Cunningham’s charges take on North Queensland Cowboys, Brisbane Broncos and the Roosters in a real Super League versus NRL test.
“If you’re a true fan of rugby league, and your team isn’t involved, why wouldn’t you get behind us?” he said. “It is six of the best sides in the world and you can watch them go toe to toe in your own back yard.
“I will certainly be watching the other two games and if players can get behind the other two teams then I’m sure the fans can too.
“We got behind an England team with six or seven Wigan players in it; I’m sure we can get behind them against Brisbane too and vice versa.”
Saints last dalliance with the World Club Series was last season when they were humbled in the showpiece by South Sydney.
And Kyle admits that one still stings.
“We certainly want to get over what happened last season,” he continued. “I have watched the game back a couple of times over the off season and it might sound crackers but if Mark Percival scores in the corner then it could have been different.
“I’m sure, on that form, they would have gone on to beat us but we shot ourselves in the foot. We just didn’t show on a world stage what we could do.
“You always want to test yourselves against the best in the world. You wouldn’t be in sport if you didn’t want to do that. It will be a great day if we can get one over them.
“We will be approaching the game full on. If we aren’t there mentally then it could be a similar story. We will come out ready for them.”
