SHANNON McDonnell says Saints will need to step up when the Warriors arrive this Friday.
“We know this derby is a massive game,” he said. “We know what Wigan will bring and we know what we want to bring. If you can’t get up for a Good Friday derby then you’re in the wrong sport.
“There were things we disappointed with on Friday and areas we let ourselves down in too. We created a lot but didn’t finish. The good thing is we know what we have to do and what areas we need to fix. That is what we are working on this week.
“Wigan have only lost one game. They have been solid and strong. We know they will improve from last week and we will have to step up.
“They have strength across the park. Their backs made a lot of metres for them and their back five carry the ball well from kick returns. Matty Smith is always a good leader and there aren’t any weaknesses in their pack.
“Clearly we need a good start. You don’t go into games with the intention of starting slow or being off the mark. Sometimes it just happens. We have to take it upon ourselves to have a good start.”
He continued: “We were disappointed about Friday but we want to pick ourselves up and there is no better time to do that than on Friday.”
“We can’t wait.”
