We Have To Start Well

ALEX Walmsley says Saints cannot afford to start poorly when they face Wigan this Friday.

Speaking to the Saints In Touch Podcast, the prop forward believes a similar first half performance to the one against Catalans would make it difficult to compete.

“It was very much job done on Friday but it wasn’t quite the performance we wanted,” he said. “In the first 35 minutes we weren’t at the races. We then went down to 12 men and played well but it shouldn’t take a backs to the wall job to do that.

“We were so far off the mark in the first half and we cannot afford to do that again with the opposition we have to come up against in the rest of the Super 8s.

“We were happy with the two points and the second half performance but we have to make sure we start the game well.”

He continued: “We have a cushion in the league now but that isn’t important. The league will take care of itself. We will take each game as it comes and what will happen will happen. We have to approach each game as do or die – that hasn’t changed.

“Wigan will be a different animal to the last time we faced them and will want to get one over us. We have to match that intensity because they will be coming at us.”
