Lomax: Big Challenge

“WHEN you play the game you want to be challenged all the time and that will come this Friday.”

That’s the view of fullback Jonny Lomax as Saints host newly crowned Challenge Cup kings Hull FC this Friday.

“Hull are the best team on form at the minute and have been bouncing into each game better than anyone,” he said. “They will be on a high after winning the Challenge Cup and will want to take that forward.

“They will want to do something similar to Leeds last year and pick up the treble. They will come here with all guns blazing.

“There generally isn’t much between the teams in the league and anyone can beat anyone across the competition. There is no more emphasis on how we have played before, we are desperate for two points and we want to secure a top four place.

“That is our goal at the minute and picking up two points would go a long way to doing that.”

Jonny admits Hull FC have threat all over the park but he has been particularly impressed with his opposite number Jamie Shaul.

“Jamie has been killing it!” he added. “Hull have a big pack and he has rolled off the back of them. He picks up their offloads and when he gets going there’s not many that will catch him. He is dangerous running with the ball and we have to be aware of his threat.

“He is certainly in with a chance of an England call up. You can’t go as well as he has, and play for Hull who are going as well as they are, and not be in with a shout. A lot will depend on how him and Sam Tomkins go in the last few games of the season.”
