Turnaround Helps “Bedding In” Process

Luke Douglas says the longer turnaround will benefit Saints as they continue to adjust to life under Justin Holbrook.

The club’s new head coach has been in the country for less than two weeks and has already overseen wins over Hull FC and Wigan Warriors.

But whilst those victories have Saints on the coat-tails of those above them in Super League, Holbrook hasn’t had the time on the field to implement big changes.

Now, with yesterday’s game at Huddersfield re-arranged to June 16, he has a full week to get his charges ready for the trip to Castleford on Sunday.

“It’s good to have a longer turnaround,” Douglas said. “Justin hasn’t been around a long time and it gives us another week under him. We can continue to jump on board with the plans he has and continue to improve.

“We have been slowly building. The Magic Weekend was a good performance and against Wigan we snuck away with it at the end. We dug deep and took home a scrappy one.”

Luke says the last two wins have come off the back of “simplifying” their play.

“It’s a similar gameplan to the one we have had all season but Justin has simplified it a bit,” he continued. “He has given us three little goals to get through.

“It’s simple; we run hard with support and work for each other in defence.”

Saints travel to the Tigers on Sunday June 4 (3:30pm).
