Holbrook: Tough Decision To Make

Justin Holbrook says he has a big decision to make this week with a fully fit squad to select from.

Jonny Lomax made his return on Sunday whilst Theo Fages will be back when Saints take on Widnes at the Totally Wicked Stadium this Friday.

It leaves the Head Coach with a dilemma at who to select at fullback – but it’s a headache he is glad to have.

“Tommy Makinson has done a great job for us at fullback but he would be the first to admit his preferred position is on the wing,” he said. “It was good to have Jonny back on Sunday. He was a little bit rusty but the more he plays the more match fitness he will get. He will definitely get better as the weeks go on.

“Theo Fages should be right to return too after his head knock. We have to look after his welfare and after having two this season we sat him down for 14 days.

“It means we will have a big decision to make in the next couple of days.”

Saints aim to banish Sunday’s tight loss at Castleford at home to Widnes on Friday.

The Vikings come into the game on the back of two wins, but Holbrook says his sole focus is on improving.

“For us it is about getting our own game right,” he continued. “We have had a good look at that and where we can improve but we haven’t got time on our side. We have to improve straightaway and we have to do that on Friday.

“On Sunday, we showed how well we could defend but being kept to 12 points was disappointing. We made the players aware of where the improvements could be made and they agreed with them. Now we have to show it in games.

“We have a bunch of guys here that want to learn. Even the most experienced are open to that. They want to learn, get better and be part of it like I do.

“Our focus is on improving our own game. We are defending well, which is important, but we have to get better in attack. We are going in the right direction and that is where we all want to head.”

Saints are expecting new signing Ben Barba to link up with the squad in the next week or so and are continuing to work with all parties in relation to his NRL ban.

Saints take on Widnes on Friday June 9 (8pm) and tickets remain on sale from the Ticket Office, by calling 01744 455 052 or online here.
