Justin Holbrook said tonight’s win was crucial as Saints closed the gap on the top four.
“I am happy with the two points, it was an important win for us,” he said. “I think we dominated for large periods; Hull are a good side and somehow stayed in the game. I thought we created some good chances in that first half and fell just short a few times.
“Then, we were in control for a fair bit of the second half and they hung on in there again, to their credit, so I am really happy with everybody tonight.
“It is important to win those games. We cannot afford to miss those opportunities in games but it is great that we are creating them. There is some confidence we can take from that as we know if we finish those off we can put ourselves in good positions at the end of games
“In the end, it is the win that counts and we got that.”
He continued: “Percy’s (Mark Percival) finish was unbelievable. He is a classy player and we missed him last week. It is great to have him back. He produces some of those freakish things and it is great he could do it again tonight for us.
“I thought the game got ruined by the conditions a little bit, but you have to be able to handle that and I thought both teams did as well as they could. Defence forced a number of errors too so for Percy to do that in those conditions made it extra special.
“I was happy with Danny. I like the way he has played in the Reserves and he ran well at Champ level last weekend. He has all the gifts you want in a half. He did a good job tonight alongside Theo Fages.
“We needed Theo to play a little more for us, take on more responsibility and he did. His little bit of class helped us.
“But you have to give credit to Hull. They jagged a try and then kicked a 40:20 – but we were good enough to hold them out and get the win.
“It was an important game for us and we put in a good performance. We competed until the end and got the win we needed.”
