Tommy Makinson says he is enjoying watching young players come into the side and do well.
With Matty Smith currently sidelined through injury, the winger has been impressed with the likes of Danny Richardson.
“Matty is a great player and Danny is learning his trade from him,” he said. “If you are going to learn from a player then why not someone like Matty Smith?
“Matty is awesome and we are looking forward to getting him back but Danny showed what he was about in the last minute against Wakefield.
“I told him to kick it out but he has a little different brain to the rest of us. He put on a great sidestep for his try and then dinked that drop goal over.
“It is a joy to watch. I enjoy seeing young kids come in and enjoy it as I am not as young anymore!”
Saints moved to within one point of the top four with the win at Wakefield – setting them up nicely for the Super 8s.
“We knew it would be a tough battle – all credit to them, they were sitting fourth for a reason,” Makinson added. “Justin had us firing and we came with the right attitude.
“We know we need as many points as we can get. All games from now on need to be top performances or we will miss out.
“There are tougher games to come, we know that, so we have to continue to improve.”
Saints Super 8 fixtures will be announced at 8am on Wednesday.
