Justin Holbrook is pleased Saints' playoff destiny is in their own hands – but they have to keep it that way.
The win over Castleford has his side sat fourth in the Betfred Super League table, and they face third-placed Hull on Friday in a crucial clash.
“We want to be in our own control and are in that position now,” he said. “We have to keep it that way. It may be a cliché but nothing has changed since I first came in. We are taking it one week at time. We wanted to get better and we have done that.
“We are happy with how we are playing. Our decision making in defence has been really strong and we are going pretty well with the ball too. It is a good mix but we have to keep it up.
“Hull are a good side. Having Gareth Ellis back in has stiffened them up in the forwards too. They are physical, dangerous and creative . They are in the Cup Final and sitting third because they are a good side.
“It will be a really hard game but it is one we are looking forward to. We have put ourselves in a good position so we want to keep that going.
“We’ve had good results for a while now. We are enjoying training and playing and when you get that combination right you look forward to your next game. That is how you become consistent.”
Luke Douglas will miss Friday’s game with a knee injury but Holbrook expects Danny Richardson to be available after his head knock against Castleford.
Matty Smith is also up for selection.
“Matty came through the game ok and it was good to get him back out there,” he added. “It is good to have a guy of his experience in our side.
“Matty Lees is also really close to selection too. He was our 18th man last week. He is an outstanding young player coming through and isn’t far off.”
