Justin Holbrook On Derby Defeat

Justin Holbrook talks about his side's start, Ben Barba, 'third man in' tackles and Wakefield.

“I thought we recovered from the start,” he said. “It was the first time we have been in that situation but we clawed our way back and missed a few chances.

“That hurt us in the long run; we showed signs of clawing our way back in but it was too little too late.

“I thought Ben (Barba) went well and tried hard for 80 minutes. We put him in a tough position by being 14-0 down but I thought his game was really strong.

“He will be better for the run and I look forward to seeing him next week.”

He continued: “I thought the tackle (Willie Isa on LMS) wasn’t good – if that isn’t a dangerous tackle? It is the most horrible thing for a fan to watch. If I am a mum or dad would I let my kid play rugby if that is not a penalty? How can you put it on report and just let them play the ball.

“There is a Salford player out for months because of that exact tackle and then at the end of the game someone gives little shove and gets ten for that. No one is getting hurt for that are they?

“I’m disappointed in the tackle but we didn’t deserve to win tonight for the way we played, not because of the official.

“We know we have to win the next three games – we needed to win tonight but now we are relying on other teams.

“It is what it is – we have to win at Wakefield which will get us one point behind and then move on from there.”
