Academy Tour – Day 13

There were happy faces at breakfast again today as we woke to the sunshine that we are becoming used to instead of yesterday's monsoon like weather.

Day 13 – Saturday October 21

We started with our team review session where Derek Traynor highlighted all the good points taken from Wednesdays game; the good team plays, strong defence, and skilful tries but more importantly the lads looked at, and discussed, all areas that need to be improved before the next game.

With no let-up it was straight to the city for us all so the lads that have family over here can meet up and spend the day together.

The rest of the group headed over to ‘Paddy’s Market’ to look for a bargain.

One particular stall must have made a tidy little profit as all the lads, and also staff, snapped up all kinds of the latest NRL training gear and playing shirts.

South Sydney, Canterbury Bulldogs, Penrith Panthers, Brisbane Broncos, Wests Tigers, – shorts, vests, tops and jackets, all kinds of stuff was picked up, and that was just Shaun Ryan’s collection!

After a bit of free time to do more shopping and grab some lunch it was back to the bus to meet the rest of the lads as they returned from their day with family and then head off the Erskineville Oval once again for today’s training session.

The lads have certainly adapted to our surroundings and training in the sunshine was good. The captain’s run session went with very few errors and everyone is now ready for tomorrow’s match at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

After training we headed over to the Souths Juniors Leagues club for dinner.

It’s been a while since we have heard any of the usual classic comments from the boys but a conversation between Jake Wingfield and Jamie Little had to be heard to be believed.

When discussing the lights in the league club restaurant (five red rings all grouped together ) Jake asked “Why do they have the Olympic Rings on the ceiling here?”

One or two of the lads laughed but Jamie came up with a great reply by saying “They’re not Olympic Rings, they are just sponsored by Audi.”

Both lads were bitterly disappointed to find out that they were simply just lights.

Back to base soon after for an early night as we now focus our attention to tomorrow’s match and hope to match our previous two performances to go three wins from three.
