Holbrook: Opportunity For Young Players

Justin Holbrook says the game with Sheffield will give him the opportunity to see the younger players in action after a tough pre-season.

Saints take on the Eagles this Saturday at Ruskin Sports Village with 18 first team squad and eight academy players set to feature.

“We’re looking at a young squad this week and they are all looking forward to it,” Justin said. “We wanted to give some of the young guys a run out after they have been training all pre-season.

“With our pitch being re-laid and not being quite ready we could have cancelled the game, but we felt it was important to give the young guys some time before the season starts.

“We will have a mix of youth and experience, alongside eight players from the Academy too.

“I’m happy with my squad and it will good to see the younger players push the senior boys.”

He continued: “Matty Costello will get plenty of game time. He has shown his versatility in pre-season and is a good player coming through the system.

“We aren’t sure of his position yet so we are looking forward to seeing him play in the friendlies to see where he fits.

“Our next friendly against Leigh will be our main hit out with everyone playing.”

The friendly with Sheffield is sold out but tickets are on sale for the game with Leigh on January 26.

Our Betfred Super League home opener with Castleford on Friday February 2 isn’t far away either!
