Holbrook: Win Is Only Positive

Justin Holbrook said there was only positive from the win over Catalans on Thursday … the fact Saints won.

His side didn’t hit the highs of recent weeks but came away with a 26-12 result to stay top of the Betfred Super League.

“I’m obviously really happy to win the game but both sides were probably below their best tonight,” he said. “The main thing is we came away with the win.

“It is hard for us, we have come off a couple of big wins and Catalans are a better team than where they sit. People see the table and assume the same kind of results but we knew it wouldn’t be.

“A lot of individuals were below their best, but I can’t really fault them. I was just happy to win a game like that.

“Positives? The fact we won is one. Tommy Makinson was fantastic and keeps delivering but as a group know we weren’t at our best.

“We came up with some nice plays to score some nice tries and were close to stopping a few of theirs. But the execution of some plays and the urgency to get on balls was all a little off tonight.

“To still win the game when we aren’t at our best is probably a good thing. I have no doubt it would have been hard to sit through, but the main thing is we won.”
