Gold Schools Games Mark

Congratulations to Newton-Le-Willows Primary who received their Gold Schools Games Mark at our game with Catalans.

Student Grace Stone and teacher Niamh McDaid were presented with the accolade on the pitch by Saints Community Development Foundation director Steve Leonard before the Betfred Super League clash.

Launched in 2012, the School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

Newton-le-Willows Primary won the Gold award by exceeding several targets which included hosting a school sports day which students helped to deliver, promoting sports within the school, linking with six local sports clubs and having more than 75% of children taking part in extra-curricular clubs.

PE Teacher at the School, Luke Courtney-Ward, said: “We are delighted to have achieved the ‘School Games Gold Award.’

“This demonstrates, celebrates and recognises the efforts over the past twelve months of the children and teaching staff at our school.

“We were very appreciative of the opportunity that St Helens Rugby League Club have provided us with by inviting us to the stadium, where we were presented with our School Games trophy.”
