Holbrook Looks Ahead

Justin Holbrook is a fan of the Magic Weekend and not just because he coached his first ever game for the club at last year’s event.

“It’s a great weekend and an awesome concept,” he said. “Where else can you get 12 teams playing in such a great venue? We are looking forward to it. I loved my first win last year and I hope that continues!”

Saints take on Widnes this Saturday at Newcastle (3pm) – a local derby that will kick off the Super League part of the Magic Weekend.

“Widnes have been playing really well lately,” Justin added. “They were unlucky against Leeds in the Cup. They lost by three points and had a couple of near misses at the end.

“They have been competing hard, are a dangerous team and we will have to play well.”

Saints head into the match without Kyle Amor after he was banned for a match following their win over Castleford.

It was the only negative of a really good victory at the Tigers.

“It was a really tough game and one I was pleased to win as Cas came at us really hard,” Justin continued. “We scored a couple of runaway tries to lead 12-0 at half time and I thought the second half was just as hard as the first.

“We defended our tryline well in the first half and that huge effort went a long way in helping us to win the game.”
