The secret behind that man of the match performance against Castleford last week? Playing with a smile on your face.
Jonny Lomax was at his best in last Thursday’s win over the Tigers, scoring one try and putting on a whole host of others for his teammates.
“It felt good to play that way,” he said. “It was nice to play for enjoyment again. It was something I thought about building up to the game and from speaking to those people closest around me. Sometimes you can put too much pressure on yourself – you have to remind yourself that we play this game because we love it.
“My plan was to out there and enjoy it. Usually, if you play with a smile then things can go your way. Things dropped for me and it was great to have a performance like that.”
Jonny’s partnership with Danny Richardson and Ben Barba has been one the keys to Saints’ success so far this season.
Playing at 6 has allowed Lomax to return to a position he knows well.
“I played a lot of my junior rugby at stand-off as well as in the Academy and when I was younger in this team,” he added. “I relished the chance to return to it at the beginning of the season. The challenge was to make the position my own and I have managed to do that going forward at a club I love.”
Lomax and his teammates host Hull FC in the Quarter Final of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup this Sunday (3:30pm).
