Makinson Excited About Test

Tommy Makinson has spoken of his excitement about linking up with the England squad and being in Denver ahead of Saturday’s test with New Zealand.

He joins four other Saints – Jonny Lomax, James Roby, Mark Percival and Luke Thompson – in the 19-man squad that will take on the Kiwis at the Mile High Stadium.

“We’ve only been here a short period of time but it’s a lovely little place,” he said. “The boys have had a couple of wanders around and we’re really excited about Saturday.

“You can see that in everyone’s faces already. We’re expecting a big crowd; it will be a new challenge and a tough one too.

“We will train at the stadium on Friday and are looking forward to it. It looks magnificent. I have heard so much about it and it will be good to get in there.”

Makinson was named in the England set up  earlier in the year but says that although the squad has met up at various times this season, this is different.

“It’s game week so it has a different feel,” he added. “A couple of the lads arrived a little later but it’s a good camp and a tight knit group.

“Every player here is here for a reason and whatever their club form we’ve come here and all bought into one thing.

“I think everyone brings something different and hopefully we can bring some confidence into the squad.”

England v New Zealand kicks off at 9:10pm on Saturday. You can watch live coverage of the game on BBC from 9pm.
