After playing a crucial role in our last clash with Wigan, Morgan Knowles is preparing for what will be an intense derby between the top two teams in the comp.
If you’re looking for storylines, this game has plenty … it’s first v second, Saints have edged the two contests between the two sides this year and a win would hand Justin Holbrook’s side the League Leaders’ Shield.
Then, there’s the small matter of bragging rights too.
“Winning the Shield will definitely be an incentive, but it will be for both teams,” Knowles said. “Wigan will want to stop us from getting it and we’ll want to get it against them, so it does add a bit extra. It’s first vs. second, Saints vs. Wigan – it doesn’t get much bigger than that.
“These games are intense and mean more to the boys, the fans and the town in general – it gives everyone bragging rights if we win. You walk around town and you get that feeling; everyone is a Saints fan and everyone is willing you to win.
“They want to go into work on Monday and brag to colleagues, so its a massive thing for the town.”
Morgan Knowles has been one of Saints’ stand-out performers this season but knows he has more to come.
“I’m happy with where I am,” he added. “There is definitely stuff I need to work on and improve, which I hope to do for the remaining games in hand.
“But for now, I’m happy with where I am at the moment.”
