Saints CEO Mike Rush went into further detail on the new deals signed by James Roby and Tommy Makinson in the run-up to the season opener vs. Wigan Warriors.
“It’s great news for the Club” he said.
“To to secure these two key players with long-term contracts is a timely boost for all concerned. They will continue to form part of our core playing group for the coming seasons. I’m sure all Saints fans will be very pleased to see these two continue to take the field in 2019 and beyond.
Both players have had interest from the NRL in recent seasons but they have both now committed to the Super League and Saints, naturally we are very happy to keep them in the Red vee.
I would like to thank all of our Club Partners and Sponsors for their continued support and particularly to both players’ sponsors, Beaufort Financial for Tommy Makinson and Vinyline Graphics who have sponsored James Roby since his debut season in 2004.”
Saints Head Coach Justin Holbrook added on James Roby, “This is incredibly exciting news for all everyone involved at the Club, he’s an incredible player, our fittest at the Club.
There is absolutely no reason why he can’t continue playing at the highest level for years to come.
He’s a fantastic leader, the way he conducts himself on and off the field; he sets a brilliant example of what it should mean to be a St Helens player.”
