James Roby has been named as Saints’ Player of the Month for February and our captain is hoping to build on his impressive displays against London on Friday.
With three tries in four appearances throughout February, Roby was the stand-out performer and was awarded with the accolade at our Networking Event, which is sponsored by Stapleton Derby.
The hooker exclusively told Saintsrlfc.com: “I have been pleased with how well I have been playing. It is always nice to pick up some accolades like this, but it is still very much early days.
“We are only a month in and players and teams will improve as the year goes on and that is our aim as a team. We need to keep improving week on week, keep tweaking things and going in the right direction.
“Obviously I am made up to collect the award, but I haven’t done anything spectacular or on my own, we get our individual recognition off the hard work of the team around us.”
Roby also spoke about the upcoming clash with London and believes Saints need to be on top of our game to come away with the two points.
“I wasn’t surprised with London’s win over Wigan, he admitted. “The minute you start taking results for granted is when you come unstuck.
“I am sure London will come into today’s game full of confidence after a great victory. From what I have seen from London, they are working very hard for each other and they are getting stuck in and enjoying being back in Super League.
“As players we have come into this game with the same mindset as any other. The challenge for us is to maintain our standards and play the way we know we can play and hopefully we can get the win tonight.
We were also delighted to welcome guest speakers Ann-Marie Swift from Swift-Solve Consulting LTD and Stuart McGuire from Debonair Languages.
The event is held every month at the Totally Wicked Stadium during the Betfred Super League season and the Player of the Month award is nominated by the first team coaching staff.
