Saints legend Tommy Martyn was joined by fans and our partners from across the town who all slept out in the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday evening to raise money for Saints Community Development Foundation as part of national YMCA Sleep Easy week.
In partnership with YMCA St Helens, Y Sports, Teardrops and St Helens Sports Development, the Saints Community Development Foundation (SCDF) hosted the sleep-out at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The event was sponsored by Cash Converters, whilst Biffa, Co-op distribution and Costa Coffee helped ensure the charity’s first ever Saints Sleep Easy fundraising event was a huge success.
Saints Community asked those taking part to give up the comfort of their own bed for the night and committed to raising funds to be split three ways between SCDF, YMCA St Helens Sports and Teardrops.
Craig Richards from Saints Foundation commented: “It was a really pleasing, but cold night. It was a great turn out from the local community. I would like to thank all the sponsors that helped out on the night. Costa were fantastic, Biffa, Co-op distribution as well as Cash Converters who were the main sponsors of the event, all made the night a great success. It was really well attended and everyone had a lot of fun.
“There was however a serious side to it too and to experience what the homeless go through in one night was really enlightening for us and it re-enforced that this event has to happen every year to raise awareness and support the charities that are working out there in the local community and do great work with homeless people.”
All funds raised from the night will aid SCDF in the first instance and then be split between the three charities to support their homeless programmes.
Thank you for your support.
