Ruthless Saints score 40 in Hull FC win

A ruthless performance saw Saints score seven tries in 40-12 victory over Hull FC. at the KCOM Stadium on Friday night.

A first half dominated by Saints saw tries through Morgan Knowles, Theo Fages and Lachlan Coote with all three tries converted by the full back.

Saints started the second half in the manner in which we started the first with Regan Grace scoring in the corner. Jack Ashworth scored shortly after finishing off an excellent Saints move before Jonny Lomax and a Coote second meant Saints hit the 4o point mark. Hull pulled two consolation tries back through Jamie Shaul and Ratu Naulago, but Saints came away with a 40-12 victory.

Inside a raucous KCOM Stadium, Saints got off to the perfect start in the opening minutes as Knowles took a short ball from LMS and stepped back inside two Hull defenders to score next to the posts. Coote with the extras.

Saints were in again on the next set as a break from Knowles took Saints up the field and on the last a high kick from Fages was fumbled backwards by Ratu Naulago and the Frenchman was first to pounce on the loose ball to score. Coote added the two giving Saints a 12-0 lead.

Saints third try of the first half came through Coote. It was the full back who put Tommy Makinson away down the line with an excellent cut out pass before the winger kicked the ball inside only for Marc Sneyd to fumble under pressure from Kev Naiqama and Coote was first to the ball to touchdown.

Saints started the second half with their fourth try through Grace. Coote found the gap before his pass hit a Hull player and found its way to Lomax and he fed Mark Percival who put Grace in at the corner.

The scoring didn’t stop there as two tries in as many minutes followed from Ashworth and Lomax to put the game beyond doubt. Great handling from Kyle Amor and Fages resulted in Lomax feeding Ashworth and the forward powered his way over under the sticks. Coote again converted.

Lomax was in to score next after a flowing move down the Saints left edge finished with Percival feeding Grace and he laid the ball back inside to our number one to get in on the act.

Saints final try of the game came through the excellent Coote as the full back started the move finding Percival and he played the ball back inside to our full back who touched down under the posts. Coote added the two to his own try bringing up the 40 point mark in the process.

Hull scored two quick fire tries through Shaul and Naulago both in the Saints left corner which ultimately proved to be consolations as we came away from the KCOM Stadium with a seven try, 40-12 victory and the Steve Prescott MBE trophy.
