Read what our Saints Academy got up to on Day 8 of their tour of Australia as the boys were treated to a guided tour of the New South Wales Rugby League centre of excellence - the home of the NSW State of Origin sides.
Conversation over breakfast this morning was interesting as the lads were discussing astrology. Last night’s walk home under the clear sky prompted a discussion about the stars and how they were different to the ones we see in the sky back home. Kian Naylor seemed to be knowledgeable and know what he was on about, listing the constellations, Orions belt and seven sisters, but he let himself down when, in typical Leigh fashion started to talk about ‘The lobby pan’ !?!
After breakfast it was the first training session of the day – a split session with a body weight gym circuit using bands and basic grip, catch, carry and pass mini-skills.
After lunch we headed over to the Olympic park area, firstly back to the New South Wales Rugby League centre of excellence, home of the NSW State of Origin sides, for a guided tour. As we would imagine, the facility was very impressive – the gym, changing rooms, recovery suite and theater were all decked in NSW blue and state of the art. The lads had chance to take photographs holding the state of origin shield after the blues earned the bragging rights this year.
A quick visit across the road to see the ANZ Stadium and the records from the Sydney Olympics was followed by some free time in the ‘Darling Harbour’ area of the city.
Focus then returned back to tomorrow’s game against Sydney Roosters as we headed over to the St Mary’s club for our Final training session – our captains run. The boys were switched on and are really improving as a team the more time they spend together.
After training the boys headed over to the perimeter fence to spot a few kangaroos that were watching them go through their plays. Buffet dinner at St Mary’s was followed by the short bus ride home and an early night ahead of tour match number two tomorrow!
