As we approach Christmas, we look back over a year of incredible success on, and off the pitch.
It’s been a year where we have seen players, coaches and staff, in our men’s and women’s teams, providing a level of rugby league which has scarcely been seen on these shores; culminating in that amazing night at Old Trafford in October. Our Academy enjoyed a hugely successful tour of Australia and our scholars continued to prove that there’s a bright future for our teams.
However, that’s not all! Our Foundation continued to make a huge impact in our communities – not least with regular Foodbank collections on match days and excellent initiatives like the Reminisce Cafe.
It doesn’t stop there! Our stadium staff have welcomed thousands of guests, who have enjoyed outstanding facilities and superb service – be that at a conference, enjoying a meal, buying merchandise or tickets or being looked after by our stewards and hospitality teams. Our ground staff have made the Totally Wicked Stadium a safe and enjoyable place to be, with an incredible pitch – whatever the weather conditions. Our office staff ensure that everything runs smoothly, with the planning and preparation for all of the above to take place. Our Chairman, CEO and Board provide excellent leadership and oversight and give a clear direction of travel.
Then we come to the greatest set of fans in Super League! Without the support and unity of our entire community, the Club would never reach her full potential.
This picture reminds me of what a family can be. Everyone playing their part, understanding that each person has a different and specific gift that they bring to the table. The Apostle Paul put it like this, “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.”
Christmas tells us that, whoever you are and whatever skills you do, or don’t have, you are loved and accepted. You have a part to play and you are indispensable. Our country feels very divided right now. Christmas reminds us that we are one family and every single one of us are, in God’s mind, worth literally moving Heaven and Earth for. Don’t ever forget the value that reality brings to each of our lives.
