Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown this week we will recall a famous match from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.
30th March – 1991
The first memorable match from the week on this day of 30th March comes back in 1991 when Saints took on neighbors Widnes in a Challenge Cup Semi Final at Wigan’s Central Park.
St. Helens 19 Widnes 2 at Central Park, Wigan.
A magnificent performance from the sizzling Saints, saw two tries from Welsh half-back Jon Griffiths and some great defending from the men in the Red Vee. The Saints progressed to the Final at Wembley where the old enemy, Wigan lay in waiting and it was they who went on to lift the trophy that year, winning 13-8.
Where you there? Can you name the Saints’ team that afternoon?
