Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown this week we will recall a famous match from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.
4 APRIL 1890
Friendly match: St.Helens 1 goal, 3 tries, 3 minors, Ulverston 0.
A real blast from the past, this one!
The visitors from Cumberland included HL Stout, dubbed the ‘Champion pole jumper of the World’, at the old ground in Dentons Green – the last season before the club moved to their new premises at Knowsley Road.
The match was on Good Friday and kicked off at 11am. Wary of the advice on this old football card, the Saints were certainly on the ball that day!
