On This Day: Women’s Super League debuts

Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous match from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.

15 April 2018

Women’s Super League RD 1: St. Helens 40-0 York at Ruskin Sports Village.

A real groundbreaker – the first game of the newly-instigated competition was a welcome breath of fresh air and long overdue!

The Saints team on this historic day was as follows:

Becca Rotherham; Rachel Yeates, Naomi Williams [2T], Katie-May Williams, Leah Burke [3T]; Carys Marsh, Faye Gaskin [Capt 3T 4G]; Sarah Lovejoy, Tara Jones, Dawn Taylor, Isabelle Rudge, Roxy Mura, Channy Crowl.

Interchanges: Zoe Harris, Charlotte Hill, Lizzie Gladman, Pip Birchall.

Scrum-half Faye Gaskin scored the first-ever try after just 5 minutes as Saints came away with a convincing win.
