Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous Saints moment from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.
22nd APRI 1939.
Schoolboy prodigy Alex Murphy OBE was born in Thatto Heath!
Just prior to the ‘witching hour’ on the eve of his 16th birthday the outstanding young scrum-half was salted away to Director Joe Harrison’s house in Eccleston, to play games of snooker before becoming a Saint.
An absolute ‘nail-on’ for a member of the Saints Greatest 17. Alex remains, to those who had the privilege to see him, one of their favourite home-grown Saints.
Happy birthday, Alex from everyone at St.Helens R.F.C.
