On This Day: Saints thrash York in Challenge Cup – 2005

Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous Saints moment from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.

6 MAY 2005

Challenge Cup round 4: St Helens 62-0 York City Knights at Knowsley Road.

The Yorkshiremen were well-beaten by a 12 try performance from the Saints.

Despite the driving rain, Sean Long scored two tries and kicked 7 goals. Further tries came from Anderson, Gardner, Wellens, Wilkin, Albert, Graham and a double from both Hardman and Hooper.

Next up in the Challenge Cup were Wigan Warriors, also at home. A tougher assignment? Apparently not: 75-0!
