Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous Saints moment from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.
7 MAY 1953
Championship Final: St. Helens 24-14 Halifax at Maine Road, Manchester.
The second league title victory in the club’s history and what a cracking match it was, with over 51,083 cramming into the home of Manchester City FC.
Saints’ tries were scored by Glyn Moses, Duggie Greenall, Ray Cale, Peter Metcalfe and a brace from livewire hooker Reg Blakemore. Metcalfe also kicked 3 goals.
The cup was presented to skipper Duggie Greenall by Lord Derby.
