On This Day: Saints beat Halifax in Championship Final – 1966

Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous Saints moment from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.

28 May 1966

1966 Championship final: St. Helens 35-12 Halifax at Station Road, Swinton.

Left winger Len Killeen and front-rower Albert Halsall each scored a hat-trick of tries – the first time this ‘double’ had happened in a major final.

Albert [pictured] is seen scoring one of his three-pointers and was simply unstoppable, as Saints completed a marvellous four-trophy haul!‪ ‬
