Local Veterans pay respects to D-Day Veteran Ray Rush

Ray was born in Prescot in 1923, joined the 1st Battalion of the South Lancashire regiment in September 1942 and was part of the first wave landing on Sword Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944.

He saw action in France, Holland and Belgium and finished up in Croatia.

He was awarded five medals including France’s highest honour the Legion d’Honneur.

On May 23, Ray, who was 96, sadly passed away.

Veterans of the Foundation, alongside Ex-servicemen and standard bearers were at St Helens Crematorium as the hearse arrived ahead of Ray’s funeral.

At least 100 mourners turned out to pay their respects to D-Day veteran Ray Rush. A much beloved character within the local community as well as the Veterans of The Foundation Cafe.
