On This Day: Saints beat Hull KR – 2007

Each day whilst we are all in Lockdown we will recall a famous Saints moment from the current day thanks to Saints Heritage Society.

17 JUNE 2007

Super League round 17: Hull KR 0-40 St. Helens at New Craven Park.

Hull KR: (0) 0

St Helens: (12) 40
Tries: Talau, Pryce, Cunningham, Gidley, Wellens, Tyrer, Graham
Goals: Tyrer 6

Saints continued to set the pace at the top of Super League with a comfortable victory over Hull KR on this day in 2007.

Saints were rarely troubled with early scores from Willie Talau and Leon Pryce putting them in control, although they failed to score again before the break.

But the defdning champions started the second half strongly with Keiron Cunningham, Matt Gidley, Paul Wellens and James Graham all scoring.

Youngster Steve Tyrer also went over for a try and added six goals. He improved on that performance, in the next match against Huddersfield Giants at Knowsley Road, with a 2 try and 7 goal cameo!

St Helens coach Daniel Anderson:

“I think we crunched them constantly in the tackle all the way through and it was a efficient, dominant professional performance.”

Replacements: Tangata-Toa, Tandy, Murrell, Chester.
