SCDF and Crimestoppers join together to tackle crime

The independent charity Crimestoppers and Saints Community Development Foundation have come together to announce a new partnership to help make St Helens a safer place to live and work.

The ‘Together we can Tackle Crime’ campaign is seeking to build on the great work of the Saints  Foundation and Crimestoppers in the community by encouraging the public to join the team and play their part in helping to reduce crime.

An official virtual launch event is planned in April, Saints themed postcards will be distributed to homes in St Helens about the campaign, engaging social media content is planned and the two charities will work together on a wide range of community projects.

The campaign seeks to encourage the community in St Helens to report crime anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers. In 33 years since the charity was formed, Crimestoppers has never revealed the identity of anyone who has contacted them and is a 100% anonymous reporting service both online and by phone.

The charity and Saints ran a previous of campaign in 2016 which led to a 42% increase in community intelligence, a number of arrests, and drugs and weapons being taken off the streets.

Gary Murray, North West Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said:

“Rugby league is at the heart of the community in St Helens and we are delighted to once again work together with the clubs foundation to get the message across that everyone in St Helens has a part to play in making St Helens safer.

“The Saints Community Development Foundation carries out fantastic work in the area across all age groups and demonstrates that St Helens is a real community where people look out for each other and care for one another. The message is that by the club, Crimestoppers and the people of St Helens coming together, we can make a real difference. If you have information about those causing damage to our community by carrying out crime, remember to tell our charity what you know 100% anonymously.

The Director of Saints Foundation Steve Leonard said:

“It is fantastic news that people like Crimestoppers are seeing what a difference the foundation is making in our own community and want to join forces for the betterment of the town and our people. We are 100% behind the Crimestoppers team who have a proven track record wherever they go, I also remember the last campaign and how successful it was for the town. I hope that like me you will play your part in keeping St Helens a safe and fun place for our children to grow up and prosper”
