Read all about our three debutants who have all been named in the 17 for today's clash with Salford Red Devils at the AJ Bell Stadium (7.45pm).

With the Betfred Super League playoffs on the horizon, a number of young Saints have been named in the matchday 17 today. Here is how we will line up:

12 of the 17 named today came through our Academy system with the likes of Jack Welsby and Lewis Dodd already having made a name for themselves. And the boss, Kristian Woolf, has given some more youngsters a chance today.

25. DAN NORMAN

Age: 24
Appearances: 1

Towering prop, Dan Norman signed on a two year deal from London Broncos in December 2020. The 23-year-old, standing 6ft-5in and weighing in at 113kg made his only appearance off the bench in the Challenge Cup win over Hull FC.

29. BEN DAVIES
Age: 21
Appearances: 1

Ben is a centre or second rower from Widnes. He played his community Rugby for Halton Farnworth Hornets before switching to Widnes Moorfield. From there he signed a scholarship deal at Widnes Vikings, playing in their Academy and making his first team debut in 2019.

Ben represented Lancashire in the Academy origin programme and was part of the England Under 18’s Academy squad. Davies made his Saints debut in defeat to Salford in 2020, impressing with a solid display at centre.


30. SAM ROYLE
Age: 21
Appearances: 0

Sam is a second row from Thatto Heath who he played for from the age of 11. He signed for Saints Scholarship shortly after and progressed through the pathway. He won the Scholarship Player of the Year award in just his second season before moving up to the U19s.

He played for the Academy for three straight years and also represented Lancashire on three occasions against Yorkshire and the Aussie Schoolboys. Sam captained the side in 2019 all the way to the Grand Final. His impressive form was rewarded as he picked up the Saints U19s Player of the Year award at the club’s annual awards dinner. He made four appearances for the reserves in 2020 and makes his debut from the start today.


31. JOHN BENNISON
Age: 18
Appearances: 0

Full back Jonathan Bennison, from West Bank Bears and Thatto Heath Crusaders is another to come through our prestigious academy. He  has scored seven tries in eight Academy matches this season and makes his debut in the no.1 position today.

32. SHAY MARTYN
Age: 18
Appearances: 0

Thatto Heath winger Shay Martyn is another to come through the Academy system. He was on the 2019 tour of Australia and has impressed this season, scoring six times and kicking 42 goals for Derek Traynor’s U19s. He starts on the wing for Kristian Woolf’s men today. Best of luck, Shay!
