Match Preview: Saints vs Warrington – Round 5

Saints face Warrington Wolves at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday evening with kick off at 8pm and we have an ACTION-PACKED night ahead!

BACKGROUND…

Friday’s Saints vs Warrington clash will be one of the highlights of the 2022 season. It promises to be a fiercely competitive local derby and it should be a cracker!

Saints claimed their 500th regular round win at Hull KR, last Friday, in their 700th regular round match, since the start of Super League back in 1996. They are of course the current, three times back to back Super League Champions; and are unbeaten; at the top of the table, this season; after four games. The Wolves are currently lying in 4th position; having won three of their four matches, for a total of six points.

During the off season Daryl Powell joined Warrington as their new head coach. He, of course, needs little introduction to the Saints faithful; as he has been a regular visitor to St. Helens in recent times, with the Castleford Tigers. The Wolves are hoping that his appointment will breathe new life their squad and he will be able to help the Wire win silverware.

Friday’s game is also the Club’s Tongan themed clash – with a host of activity going on pre-match and during the game. Click here to read all about it.

OFA ATU TONGA

The match will see the stepping-up of our OFA ATU TONGA Appeal, all of the details of which you can find here.

The squad will be wearing special warm-up tops and our 2022 Home kit, which the players will don for the match, will all feature the Tongan Flag on the chest of each playing shirt. These match-worn shirts will then be signed and auctioned after the match to raise money for our appeal.

Our very own Tongan’s Will Hopoate and Agnatius Paasi’s children will also be delivering the matchball!

We will also be handing out A3 cards inside our turnstiles for fans to hold up in support of our appeal.

There will be a number of Tongan’s in the crowd who we have invited to the game, including the Tongan High Commissioner! Fans will also be able to show their support by purchasing a Tongan National Flag from the Saints Superstore, which you can also buy online here.

As part of our appeal, there will also be a matchday collection point (matchday only) for our appeal donations of clothing and sports kit outside the Saints Superstore at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
