The academy continued their unbeaten start to the season with a big win over the London Broncos down in the capital.
Match Report
The game started brilliant for the Saints, when a cut out ball from Ben Lane saw Ben Will cross over for his first try of the game in the right corner after only 4 minutes. Will Roberts stepped up to convert the try and successfully converted the try, giving the side a 6-0 lead.
Another try followed straight after, as strong carries from the kick-off saw Saints back up the field on the London line. The ball was played left where McKenzie Buckley gave the ball to Dayon Sambou to cross over on the left. Roberts again stepped up to convert the try gifting the Saints a 12-0 lead.
London however struck back themselves when Tommy Svanidze crossed over after a pass back inside from Joseph Saunders set him away to score under the sticks. Tommy Porter converted the try to reduce the lead back to six points.
Saints Eliot Peposhi was sent to the sin bin on the 21st minute following what was deemed a high tackle.
Despite the numerical disadvantage on the field, Saints still managed to find a way to get passed the London defence and score. Having been given a penalty 20 metres out following a tip on Alfie Sinclair, the side played to the right to Sam Haynes who gave the ball to Will who crossed over in the corner to grab his second of the game. Roberts again converted from the side to make the score 18-6.
Just before the break, substitute Leunbou Bardyel Wells put himself on the score sheet after a strong run towards the line saw him crash over just to the right of the posts. Roberts continued his run of conversion and left the half time score line at 24-6 in favour of the Saints.
The second half started and took the Saints only 10 minutes to get back to there scoring ways of the first half. Following a penalty for interference at the play the ball, the ball was shifted out to the right again, where Lane played in Will who completed his hat-trick. Robert’s conversion narrowly went wide, leaving the score at 28-6.
The tries kept on coming, after Keane Gilford crossed over on the left wing following several strong carries up field from a goal line drop out. The ball was play out to the left were Buckley laid a great ball out to the winger who crossed over for his first try of the game. Roberts nailed the conversion from the side-line with a great kick, taking the score to 34-6.
Buckley would grab himself a try, after receiving a short ball ten metres away from the line, he pushed off a defender to cross over himself to the right of the post. Roberts converted again to give the side a 40-6 lead entering the final 10 minutes.
Gilford would then cross over for his second try of the afternoon and the final try of the game with a great finish in the corner. Will claimed the ball in the air on his own ten metre line and set the Saints up the field, where from a quick play the ball the ball is worked over to the left where Sambou flicks a great offload to Gilford who dived over in the corner to score. Roberts stepped up again and landed the kick from the side-line to round up the win and leave the final score at 46-6.
