Dodd suffers season ending Achilles injury

Scans have revealed half back Lewis Dodd has sustained a significant injury to his Achilles that will keep him out for the rest of the 2022 season.

Dodd left the field towards the end of Good Friday’s victory over Wigan at the Totally Wicked Stadium and was not named in the squad for Easter Monday’s trip to the Giants.

And scans have revealed Dodd, 20, will sadly not feature again this season.

Head Coach Kristian Woolf confirmed the news in his post match press conference and exclusively told saintsrlfc.com: “It’s obviously a devastating injury for a young man who is at the early stages of a successful career.

“Doddy has been outstanding over the last 12 months and has played a key role in our Grand Final win last year and showed his class.

“He continued that form and class this year and he was in my opinion the form half back of the comp and was in line for representative honours.

“What’s important is it’s not a career ending injury and knowing the player he is, he will work hard on his rehab and will come back stronger next season and continue to be a success.

“We as a club will back him all the way and we wish Doddy all the best in his recovery. Last year we lost our starting half back and came back to win a Grand Final and we will pull together and over come this and I am confident we will still have a successful year.”

In terms of who will come in for Dodd moving forward, the boss says he has a few options.

“We will fill the void from within. Roby has a chance to play there, I thought he was great tonight [against Huddersfield]. Joey Lussick is a bloke who have have brought in to play nine and he is an option.

“We also have Will Hopoate who comes back in a week or so and he is an international full back and has played well over 150 games in the NRL at full back. He is another option for us so we will figure that out in due course.”

Everyone at Saints wishes Lewis all the best with his recovery.
