Saints Women Reach Nines Finals!

Saints Women will play in the Nines' finals later this year, after going unbeaten during today's games at Victoria Park!

Game One: Warrington Wolves Women

Warrington opened the scoring as Saints started slowly. Two early tries for the hosts giving them an 11-0 lead. Saints did grab a score of their own before the break though, as new signing Shona Hoyle scored her first try for the club under the sticks which earnt the Red Vee a bonus point. Zoe Harris converted as we trailed 11-7 at the break.

Warrington extended their lead early in the second half which gave Saints a mountain to climb. Saints were able to climb that mountain. First, Tara Jones spotted a gap from dummy half and exploited the space it to score. Harris was unable to convert, 17-11 Saints trailed. Saints then grabbed their third try as Darcy Stott pounced on a Warrington error to score. Harris converted to level the game at 17-all, but both sides were forced to settle for a point a-piece to open their Nines campaign.

Game Two: Barrow Raiders Ladies

It took just three minutes for Saints to take the lead as Rachael Woosey showed her speed with a great run down the left wing.  Harris converted, 6-0 we led. The lead was increased two minutes later, Hoyle grabbing her second try of the afternoon from dummy half as she spots a gap and buries under it to score. Harris missed the conversion, 10-0.

Saints were able to add one more try before the break. The ball was worked out to Eboni Partington on the right wing and she used her speed to sprint 40 metres and score. Harris missed the kick, 14-0 Saints led at break.

Saints increased their lead two minutes into the second period as once again Woosey was given space to run into and she made the most of it to score from distance. Harris converted, 20-0. There was still time for a proud moment for the Saints academy. Saints created an overlap down their right wing, that allowed u19 player Amelia Norton to stroll  over. Harris missed the conversion, 24-0.

There was time for one final try. Stott once again reacted quickest to a loose ball to score. Harris missed the conversion, but it wasn’t to matter, as Saints won 29-0.

Game Three: Bristol All Golds

Saints took a third minute lead, Partington rounded the All Golds defence and sprinted half the length of the pitch to score. Harris missed the conversion, 4-0 we led. The second try was not far behind. Jones had a run from dummy half and found Norton, who once again strolled in for her second try of the day. Harris missed the kick, 8-0.

Saints’ third try came in the seventh minute. The ball was worked from left to right and Naomi Williams scored in the corner. Harris missed the kick, 12-0. There was time for one final try in the first half. Another academy product going over as Beth Anderton powered over from close range. Harris converted so we led 18-0 at the break.

Megan Bragg then grabbed her first Saints try as she slid over from close range. Harris couldn’t convert, 22-0. Saints’ sixth try followed. Jones found Woosey who strolled in the corner. Harris was unable to convert, 26-0.

There was still time for two final Saints tries. First, Katie Mottershead threw a great dummy before sprinting 40 metres to score under the sticks, giving Saints a bonus point. Harris converted, 33-0. Saints final try came on the hooter, we kept the ball alive and  Hoyle broke away to get another bonus point try under the sticks. Harris converted, 40-0.
