Highlights: Second half performance sees Academy beat Wakefield

Saints Academy turned around a 6-10 half-time deficit to defeat Wakefield Trinity Academy 50 points to 10 at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday. Watch the highlights below.

After just 6 minutes, Noah Stephens made a break through the Trinity line and fed the supporting Ellis Archer to go over under the sticks to score. Archer converted his own try from in front, 6-0.

Just after the 20 minute mark Wakefield hit back after a kick to the left corner from Eli Saul saw Evan Stephenson claim the ball and score in the corner. Robbie Mann converted from out wide, 6-6.

On the 26 minute mark, a 40-20 from Mann meant Trinity were 20 out from the line. They sent the ball over to the right and scored in the corner through Blake Colton. Mann couldn’t convert the kick meaning the half-time score saw Wakefield lead 6-10.

Four minutes into the second half, the Saints were level after the ball was played right to Archer who cut out a man to give the ball to Bannerman who batted the ball on to Ben Will to score in the corner. Archer missed with the kick, meaning the score was level at 10-10.

As the 50 minute mark struck, Saints were in again when Alfie Sinclair gave a lovely short ball to Niall Dean who went over and scored under the posts for a well deserved try for the forward on his return to the side. Archer converted from in-front, 16-10.

George Delaney then took the ball in his own in-goal from kick off and broke through, running up to the Wakefield 20 metre line, getting the Saints straight back on the attack. The ball was then played left a few tackles later where Ben Lane delivered a ball to Keane Gilford who went over in the corner. Archer narrowly missed the kick, 20-10.

In the 62nd minute a break from Lane down the left wing saw him break the tackle of the Wakefield defence and find an offload to Dayon Sambou who raced away and went over to score in the left corner, Archer missed the kick from outside, leaving the score at 24-10.

Four minutes later an offload from Bannerman on the right saw him put Jonathon Vaughan through a gap, where he then went away to score under the sticks, Archer converted from right in-front, 30-10.

With the 70th minute approaching, Sambou went in for his second after the ball was again played over to the left where Lane delivered a super cut out pass to Sambou who dived over in the corner. Archer missed the conversion, 34-10.

In the 72nd minute Gilford played the ball over to the right to Will, who stepped back inside and gave the ball to Vaughan who dived over for his second of the game. Archer converted from the right, 40-10.

Minutes later after a set off offloads on the right, Lane gave the ball to Archer who glided through the line to score his second of the game over in the right corner, he couldn’t convert his own try, 44-10.

In the 75th minute, the last try of the game was scored after lovely hands from Stephens saw Archer go through the line, and find his supporting half, Lane who went over to score under the posts.
